2024 Festive Coffee Morning Bumper Attendance
The Histon and Impington Village Society hosted its annual Festive Coffee Morning on Saturday, 7th December at the Histon Methodist Church, and it was a resounding success! The event attracted the largest turnout we've ever had, with over 70 attendees – a mix of familiar faces, new visitors, and members of the community who’d popped in after looking at the Christmas Tree Festival next door. It was a wonderful opportunity for people to meet, enjoy a warm cuppa, and indulge in a delicious mince pie or two.
Our thanks goes out to all the committee members who worked hard to organise the event, especially Linda Holland, who took charge of the arrangements and ensured everything ran smoothly.
In total, we served 70 mince pies, along with a generous selection of biscuits, all of which were enjoyed by everyone. A special highlight was the albums of local historical images brought in by historian Eleanor Whitehead, sparking many conversations about the village’s past.
The event also saw the launch of our latest publication – the new edition of Cheers – which proved to be a hit. We sold many copies, with people keen to take home a piece of local history to share with family and friends. It was heartening to see so many people supporting our society by purchasing publications, which help fund our ongoing activities.
Despite the wet, windy weather and non stop storm warnings, the turnout exceeded all expectations. Initially, it looked like we might have overestimated the number of mince pies bought – at 10am, only the committee was in sight! However, by 10:30am, the hall was full of conversation and we only had a few seats spare.
The morning highlighted the community spirit that the Histon and Impington Village Society tries hard to foster. It's rewarding to witness the friendships formed through our group, and we’re proud to provide a space where people, both new and long-standing, can come together, enjoy each other's company, and engage with local history.
