Visit to Landbeach Tithe Barn
Reflections on Our Visit to Landbeach Tithe Barn – October 17th, 2024
30 of our society members visited the historic Landbeach Tithe Barn on a gorgeous sunny afternoon this October. Our exclusive talk, delivered by one of the Barn's knowledgeable trustees, was just fabulous. Robert’s talk guided us through the rich history of the barn, which dates back to the medieval period. He gave a detailed insight to both historic and recent renovations of the architectural features such as the thatched roof, the elm timber frame, and the impressive brick threshing floor. It was a treat to learn more about one of Cambridgeshire’s few remaining tithe barns and the vital role these barns once played in the local community.
The setting itself couldn’t have been more peaceful. The Barn, sits in the quiet countryside just off the High Street. It was mentioned that, looking out of the barn door onto the fields you could be any of the last few centuries as simply nothing obstructed the view. After the talk we had time to explore the timber structure and other features up close and we were treated to a selection of delicious cakes and refreshments, which were much appreciated.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Landbeach Tithe Barn Trust for hosting us, and to all of you who joined us. It was a memorable day.
